Cuc Phuong National Park is one of Vietnam’s most important protected areas. Though wildlife has suffered a precipitous in Vietnam in recent decades, the park’s 222 square Km of primary tropical forest remains home to an amazing variety of animal and plant life: 307 species of birds, 133 species mammal, 122 species of reptile, 2000 plant species and counting.

Located 120 kilometres south of Hanoi, Cuc Phuong national park was established in 1962 and is the oldest national park in Vietnam. Consisting of more than 200 square kilometres of tropical forest and many grottoes, the reserve is rich in wildlife and natural beauty and also possesses historical significance, as prehistoric tools and ancient tombs have been discovered in some of the cave.

Community-Based Ecotourism & Homestays.
The forests of Cuc Phuong are immensely important culturally, providing livelihood resources for local communities. However, the forests and its resources are under constant threat. Community-based ecotourism initiatives are beginning to turn marginalized communities into local stakeholders, creating incentives to support conservation. Why not take a trek to the Muong village of Khanh or to the villages in Ngoc Son Nature Reserve or Pu Luong Nature Reserve where the hospitable local people offer 1 or 2 night home-stay in their traditional stilt houses? While in the village you will live as one of the family, eat together, have an opportunity to explore their culture and try out bamboo river
